Sign a document yourself
Not every document has recipients. A statement, a power of attorney, a contract that only you sign: there is nobody to invite for those, and the path is shorter. The document is prepared, you sign it right away, and it is kept in your documents like any other.
Choosing the path
Section titled “Choosing the path”New document — on the home screen, on the + button of the document list or in the list’s sidebar — opens a choice first: “Who is going to sign? The answer decides the path.”
| Card | What for |
|---|---|
| Sign it myself, now | “For a document only you sign: a statement, a contract, a power of attorney. It is kept in your documents.” Three steps. |
| Send for signature | “For a document other people sign too. Choose who, the order and how each one signs.” Four steps — see Send a document for signature. |
Choose Sign now. The three steps are the send wizard’s own, without the recipients step and without review and send:
| # | Step | What the application says |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Select document | “Choose the document you are going to sign. PDF or Word.” |
| 2 | Signatures and zones | “Place your signatures and fill in what is missing in the document.” |
| 3 | Sign | “Confirm and sign. The document is kept in your documents.” |
1. Select document
Section titled “1. Select document”It is the same drop zone as the send, with one difference: here a single document goes in. Drag it over or use Select document. A Word file is converted, and it is the PDF that gets signed — check it before moving on.
2. Signatures and zones
Section titled “2. Signatures and zones”The signature panel is the send wizard’s, described under Signatures, but it holds one person only: you. It starts with a Simple signature; from the panel you add the other ways of signing you want to use on the same document — initials, Digital Mobile Key, Digital Mobile Key with professional attributes, or your own digital certificate — and place one zone for each.
Those five are the ways of signing accepted here. With one person there is no signing order, no SMS code and no password: you are signed in, and that is what identifies the signer.
The zone rules are the send’s — one qualified signature per person, per document, and each zone costs one credit of that zone’s own type. See Each zone costs one credit.
The Sign button stays inactive until there is at least one zone. If you reach step 3 without any, the warning is “Place at least one signature: choose Signature and tap the page.”
3. Sign
Section titled “3. Sign”Before signing you see a summary: the file name, how many zone(s) to sign, who it is Signed by — your name and email — and How, with one label per way of signing you used.
When you press Sign, the document is prepared and you sign it right away. It is not sent to anyone.
Press Sign. Three things happen in a row, on the same screen:
- “Preparing…” — the document is published. This is where the balance is checked and, on a free organisation, where you may be asked for your mobile number — see below.
- “Preparing the document for signing…” — the platform applies its certifying seal to the PDF, as it does to every document sent. See Secure final document.
- The signing screen, the same one an invited signer sees — create or choose your signature, and sign each zone. It is what Sign a document describes, except that you are already signed in.
With the Digital Mobile Key, the round trip to the AMA service brings you back to the same place: from the moment the document is published, the page address identifies it, and reloading or coming back reopens this step where it was.
Document signed
Section titled “Document signed”At the end, Document signed — “It is kept in your documents, under Completed.”
- Download PDF — the signed, closed document. While the platform closes it, the button waits with “Closing the signed document…”.
- Share — only appears on devices where the browser can share files, typically a phone. It opens the system share sheet with the PDF.
- See in documents — the document list, where you find it under Completed with the history and completion report of any other document.
Messages you may see
Section titled “Messages you may see”| Message | What happened |
|---|---|
| “Your plan has no signatures left. Buy more and try again.” | The balance does not cover the zones you placed. Nothing was published. See Plans, credits and extras. |
| One more step before sending | Your organisation is free and you have not confirmed your mobile number yet. Confirm it in the dialog and the document goes ahead — see Confirm your mobile number. |
| “Preparation is taking longer than usual. The document stays in To sign — you can come back to it from the list.” | Sealing did not finish in the expected time. The document exists; you sign it later from the list. |
| “The document could not be prepared for signing.” | Sealing failed. Open the document in the list to see its state. |
| “This document can no longer be signed here. Open it from the document list.” | You reopened the address of a document that is no longer waiting for your signature. |
| “The document is still being completed. You will find it in Documents shortly.” | You signed, but closing the PDF has not finished yet. The file shows up in the list when it does. |
| “Sharing failed. Download the document and send it from there.” | The system share sheet failed. Download still works. |
